a note about music

I read in some academic journal one day that music, and any other form of art has the ability to conquer consumerism. To be above the laws of supply and demand. The argument is that unlike other products that are consumed, ie. your clothes are last season and you need that new plasma tv or whatever...art is forever. You buy an album once, and it can be listened to again and again. It might burn out, fade out, but it won't ever be gone forever. Yes the medium might change (from vinyl to tape to cd and back to vinyl), but the album can be played over and over again. So in other words, music can be compared to other things that offer us enjoyment that we can't purchase like friends and lovers. I like that thought. Moral of the story: treasure your music player, because it will introduce you to flings, one night stands, soul mates and best friends.
